7 TIPS FOR PERSONALIZING YOUR WEDDING

scaled_e1337229450.jpeg

Pictures by: Dana Grant Photography

I have yet to plan a wedding, in my 12 years, that hasn’t had personilized touches specific to my bride and groom.

Tip #1: Write Your Own Vows - Nothing says “This is Our Wedding” like writing your own vows, it’s touching, your guests will love it and it will be a memory you and your Fiancé will always cherish. Isn’t that what all this is about anyway?? After the wedding your can frame each of your vows to have forever!

Tip #2: Do Something Different -Throw out the rules that most couples follow for their wedding and do something different.  How about have your Cocktail Hour before the ceremony? Or at the Reception have different shape guest tables. Don’t have a head table, let your bridal party sit with their families and you and your new husband do the same. Don’t do the normal cake cutting ceremony, have a self serve dessert table, sky’s the limit when you let your imagination go wild and think outside of the box. Trust me your guest have been to more than one wedding and would welcome something different.

Tip #3: Family Traditions/New or Old - Create your own family crest and incorporate it throughout your wedding. Include your family customs or traditions. Create an original signature drink.

Tip #4: Personalized Wedding Favors that give back -

Tip #5: Custom Invitations/Stationary -

Tip # 6: Have a Focal Point - Monogram in lights, Sweetheart Table, Cake or Dessert Table, Colored Dance Floor, Photo Booth, Wall Graffiti!! Tip #7: Surprise Your Guests -  Have In n Out, Hot Dog on a Stick or Krispy Kream truck show up for a late night snack. Hire a band instead of a DJ for the whole night. Don’t just end the night, have a Grand Exit!

Laura and David

Eclectic Woodsy Wedding @ Highland Springs Resort

Laura and David, two attorneys living in New York came to California to Wed. Their venue was at the Highland Springs Resort, a natural wonder in Cherry Valley. Graced with lavender fields and olive groves and an ancient oak tree that has survived for 1100 years, it is one of the quintessential outdoor rustic and romantic wedding locations outside of Palm Springs. This was our third wedding at this location.

At this time of the season, lavender flowers were beginning to bloom. The olive grove provided an enchanting space for portraits and a cocktail area as well. The palette of soft tans, mist green, light lavender complemented perfectly to Laura’s theme. Platinum Lining Events, coordinated and did all of the design and decor mostly with a long distance connection with Laura and David to design this magical day. The couple only came to California twice during the planning process and we had power meetings every time! The incomparable Lauryl Lane, designed the breathtaking botanical inspirations including a Chuppah made of birch and adorned with floral and moss. The reception tablescapes were not only accompanied with flowers but with vintage bird cages, mason jars a linen, burlap blend table linen and lace runners. Every table was decorated slightly different and we had long family tables, square table of 8 and round tables – a surprising touch. Plus, the ingenious use of wood, moss, and other organic touches brought a natural element to the entire design.

Desi Baytan Photography captured the essence of the day and also got us Featured on Style Me Pretty for this wedding! It was amazing.

Euridici & Brian

Elegant Summer Wedding @ Sierra Lakes Country Club

This was such a fun, loving couple! The bride is an elementary teacher and the groom is a business owner!

They got married in the summer and thankfully it wasn’t too hot, it was actually a beautiful day! They had one of the BIGGEST bridal parties I have worked with in a long time (24 people total)!!

280296_10150234893301029_87642206028_7537128_1686836_o.jpg

They had an elegant, evening wedding with the ceremony outside at the gazebo and then a breathtaking palette of Black and Ivory decor inside at the reception. It was a timeless wedding with simple but elegant touches! Every table had mahogany chiavari chairs, black underlay linens with an ivory organza runners! They had manzinita trees filled with ivory orchids, crystals and candles on half of the tables and the other half had cylinder vases filled with orchids! The groom spared no expense for his beautiful bride!

Euridici & Brian’s wedding was very family focused with the bride and groom blending their families, they made sure their children were an integral part of the ceremony as well as throughout the reception. It was an absolutely beautiful wedding ceremony with the bride and groom also exchanging vows with their children! I was honored to help plan and coordinate this special day!

Michelle Johnson photographed this wedding and I just love working with her. Irises Designs did all of the floral arrangements and Boogie Down DJ Services provided the music!

Staci and Gary were an awesome couple. I am so glad PLE got the opportunity to help plan their wedding. Although I didn’t get great pictures their wedding was fabulous. The pictures don’t do justice but they used great vendors such as Irises Designs, Moon Dust DJ. They had their wedding at First United Methodist Church in Ontario and the reception was at Crestmore Manor in Riverside. They had a very cool photo booth that could hold at least 10-15 people at one time. Open bar with Michelle the bartender from Rhythem Ent. she was the Best bar tender I have ever used.  All of this for under 20K! So cheers to the Sunshine-Bright wedding – you gotta love the last names. Staci is going from Sunshine to Bright!!!!!!!!!! Great Couple.

Monique & Yahmin 11-8-08 – Universal Sheraton Hotel, Universal City, CA

This was a beautiful wedding that we planned for Monique and Yahmin. They were married on Nov. 8, 2008 at the St. Philips Episcopal Church in Los Angeles and then the 150+ guest reception was held at the beautifully remolded Universal Sheraton in the Roof Top Garden room. Their 5 tier cake was so beautiful in the room against all the windows that overlooked the city.  Their guest enjoyed a wonderful 3 course meal and a chocolate fountain full of treats for dessert. This wedding was planned for over a year with the Bride and groom living in separate states for the majority of the planning this was definitely the type of wedding that a coordinator is a must have. Larsen/Baker Wedding 10-4-08 – Private Residence, Ontario CA

Wow, this was a great wedding to coordinate and I had such a great time with the entire family. There were so many details to keep track of, items to prioritize, vendors to book and family traditions to preserve.  Here is the story of my most recent wedding event: When Amy Larsen and Derek Baker discussed “something old” for their October wedding, the choice was obvious – The Maclin family compound, known around the world as Maclin’s Open Air Market. While a location known for antiques, livestock auctions and swap meet bargains seems to be an unusual background for exchanging wedding vows, the young couple actually honors an earlier family marriage that took place in July 1932.

Amy’s great grandparents were married 76 years ago in the living room of one of the homes that remains on the compound. While many traditions were followed, many things were fresh and new in this wedding. The guest list was over 150, they enjoyed a four-course dinner provided under a 3,000 square foot tent by Gourmet Gourmet Catering, custom designed cake from Sweet Art Cakes, amazing lighting effects and a fun interactive DJ from The D’Jay Company and amazing pictures by Joseph’s Photographic Design (see below).  We had a light drizzle all day but everything went just as planned and it even stopped raining for the outdoor ceremony.

In today’s tight economy many brides may think one item to cut from their budget could be a coordinator, but it may end up costing you more in the long run if you don’t hire a coordinator. I can say I used all my experience and connections for this wedding and we came in under the original budgeted amount and it couldn’t have been more beautiful!
